Things to do in Zehdenick

Why do we recommend stopping here?

The harbour is close to the city centre.

What is there to see?

The Zehdenick brickworks was the largest producer of bricks in the former East Germany. The last factory was closed in 1991, just after German reunification. Today, the mosaic of reed-lined, clay pit lakes - the so-called "clay-cutting landscape" - is a haven for birds, beavers, otters and other wildlife and is criss-crossed by hiking and bicycle trails. Abandoned brick factories, many of them still marked with signs bearing their names, can be seen - a few have tall chimneys that still poke up above the water.

What can I visit?

You can visit the cistercian convent of Zehdenick with the barn. In 1631 it was nearly burnt down. tel. 0049 3307 / 310777
