Boyle has a pleasant position at the base of the Curlew Hills and the north bank of the river Boyle. The town offers a golf course (9 hole), tennis, and river and lake fishing.
King House is a magnificently restored Georgian Mansion built around 1730 by Sir Henry King whose family were one of the most powerful and wealthy in Ireland.
Sadly only small parts of the cloister of Boyle Abbey survive, because it was turned into a barracks by the Elizabethans in 1592, and the Cromwellians who besieged it in 1645. Despite this, the ruins are impressive, dominated by a squat square tower that was added above the crossing sometime in the thirteenth century.
