This is a very pretty spot, at the head of Loch Ness and under 5 miles from Inverness. It is a perfect location to moor up and spend some time walking along the marked trails here and to work up an apetite for a meal at the the quirky Oakwood restaurant, which is ideal for a relaxing evening meal.
The school house was built in Queen Victoria's reign and currently has just under 40 pupils!
In 1901 a minor earthquake was centred on Dochgarroch and it left a half-inch wide crack running along the towpath for several hundred metres.
The lock keeper here is reputed to make a very good goats cheese!

Atmosphere: It's situated in an old antique shop and post office, so very unusual, and run by the very friendly owners. The restaurant has had some rave reviews and focus's on using the best of local Scottish produce.
Cuisine: local steaks, venison and casseroles plus a very extensive vegetarian selection, together with local fish and seafood. They also offer freshly made rolls & home made cakes
Speciality: House specialities include venison, seared scallops with bacon, and lamb roasted with lemon and garlic.
