Cruising on the River Tarn, visit the colourful regional markets at Castelsarrasin and enjoy stunning views from the 11th century bridge over the river at Montauban.

    Follow the Canal latéral à la Garonne through vineyards and pastures to Buzet, famous for its amber-coloured aperitif. The bastide town of Vianne is famous for its beautiful glassworks and has many good restaurants and lively markets while the 16th century fortified water mill at Barbaste – its four towers dedicated to King Henri IV’s four daughters – is a must-see. Visit the stunning remains of Henri IV’s chateau at Nérac and spend time browsing its colourful shops and art gallery. Take your sketchbook ashore at Valancesur- Baïse, a picturesque fortified town overlooking the Baïse region and enjoy a measure of Armagnac in its home town of Condom.

Notable places to visit en route to Buzet on the River Baïse, include the wonderful cloisters at Moissac, 13th century Valence-d’Agen popular for its bustling weekday markets and Agen, famous for its prunes and home to wonderful Gallo-Roman treasures and works of art by Goya, Sisley and Dufy.
