Cruise across the famous aqueduct at Briare before visiting the charming medieval town of Montargis - known as the ‘Venice of Gatinais’ because of its numerous canals and bridges. Buy delicious pralines from the original shop that made them in the time of Louis XIII. Saffron, the world’s most expensive spice, is grown in the surrounding fields.

A place of tourist interest with guided tours. Possibility of tastings of local produce in the port (notably snails). Several restaurants and shops.

Montargis is the second largest city in the Loiret, after Orléans and is often known as the " Venise du Gatinais " due to the numerous canals which criss-cross the town. Many of the houses overlooking the canals are prettily decorated with flower boxes on their balconies. There are many famous restaurants here and lots of gourmet specialities (“Praslines, Gâtinais Honey, the Dog of Montargis’ Dung, Roseaux du Loing, Pavés Montargois”).
