Boating holidays from Carrick-on-Shannon
Carrick-on-Shannon is a small town with a vibrant nightlife scene, especially on weekends. This is the perfect place to start your boating holiday and explore the famous Lough Key (which is a 2.5-hour boat ride from Carrick), with its castle and sensational adventure park, perfect for children.
From Carrick, you can also reach the Shannon-Erne for more traditional navigation on the canal and through the locks on the River Shannon. Heading south you will find yourself 10-12 hours of crusing from Athlone and the Celtic Monastery of Clonmacnoise
What to see during your Carrick-on-Sharron boat trip
Costello Memorial Chapel
This little chapel sits in between two buildings, which makes it difficult to find when you are passing through. This hotel is definitely worth a visit just to see the amount of detail and the craftsmanship that has been made. The story is very well laid out and easy to follow. Glencar Waterfall
The dock Art Center
Music, Art, Crafts, local designers work... Cafe... Yoga. Something for all ages at different times. The Dock is housed in the beautiful 19th Century former Courthouse building, overlooking the river Shannon, which has been wonderfully restored into Leitrim’s first integrated centre for the arts.
Parke’s Castle
Parke's Castle is a mansion located near Dromahair, in County Leitrim in Ireland.
The foundation of the house dates back to 1609 when the English captain and colonist Robert Parke built it. The construction began when in the 17th century the previous existing tower from the 16th century owned by the O'Rourke clan (Breifne) was remodeled and transformed.
In this castle, dozens of Spaniards found refuge under the protection of Brian O'Rourke after the shipwreck of the Invincible Armada in 1588, among whom was Captain Francisco de Cuéllar.
Eagle’s Rock
Eagles Rock is Ireland's tallest freestanding tower and its entire plateau at the top is covered with a thick carpet of the most luxurious soft heather you can picture. This gives stunning views over Slieve League in Co Donegal and the Arroo Summit Plateau to the north. The summit of Eagles Rock was only climbed by 6 people.
Creevelea Friary
Somewhat difficult to find but worth to go. Beautiful historical site and cemetery, it’s just a short walk from Dromahair... it gives you a great view of Ireland's history and the life of the monks.
