Sample two-night itinerary from Carrick-on-Shannon

Enjoy a pint in an authentic Irish pub

Day 1:  Arrive from 2pm to check-in and complete your pre-departure briefing. Our base team will do their best to have you underway to allow you to do a few hours of cruising before mooring for the night.  We’d suggest navigating a little way south on the Shannon to enjoy the countryside and get used to driving your boat. Then turn around and head back to the Emerald Star pontoons in Carrick for the night. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from – for dinner we’d recommend The Oarsman, based in the heart of town on Bridge Street or Cryans Hotel, overlooking the quay

Day 2: The next day, we’d suggest the 2.5hr cruise north – diverting up the Boyle River to Lough Key. Marvel at the Castle on the Island and moor at Lough key Forest Park, home to forest walks, Segway Tours and an activity centre with puzzle rooms and more. There’s one lock to pass through on your return journey, so make sure you set off in time to pass through it before it closes. Again, spend the second night moored back at our base and enjoy the hospitality of Carrick.

Day 3: After your last night on board, be ready to disembark and checkout by 9am.

Discover Ireland's Hidden Heartlands

Day 1:  Arrive from 2pm to check-in and complete your pre-departure briefing. Our base team will do their best to have you underway to allow you to do 2.5hrs of cruising across Lough Derg to Dromineer where you can moor for the night.  Dromineer is a popular tourist town with an ivy-clad castle, overlooking the lough. We’d recommend the Whiskey Still pub for dinner.  We can’t guarantee you’ll be able to depart on your arrival day so, if we are unable to get you away in time, you can stay moored in Portumna and take a 2min drive by car (or taxi) to Portumna village where there are many restaurants to choose from.

Day 2: If you’ve been able to overnight in Dromineer, then we’d suggest continuing across Lough Derg for another 1.5hrs to Mountshannon where you can stop for lunch and to explore this beautiful and scenic village. Spend your last night here, with dinner in the Derg Inn or Paddy’s Bar.

Day 3: After your last night on board, cruise for 30 minutes back to Portumna, in time to disembark and checkout by 9am.
