Everyone at St Jean de Losne were above and beyond…
Everyone at St Jean de Losne were above and beyond nice and helpful. They were going to call us a cab when we arrived in St Jean by train but a staff member just came and picked us up! The gentleman that showed us around the boat was excellent as well. In Branges, the women helping us check out was so nice and professional, can’t speak highly enough of her. The other staff in Branges were, oddly, not helpful. It’s traditional in any dockside setting to help those in need of a hand when coming into dock, even if aren’t working but just people sharing the dock. These guys (who are employed by Emerald Star) just sat smiling as we came in to an unfamiliar harbor in the pouring rain and didn’t lift a hand to help. Then told us, after we were tied up that we’d tied up in the wrong place and told us to move. As I said, very odd considering how great everyone else from Emerald Star was with us on our trip.
Already thinking about our next trip with Emerald Star – Highly recommended!

Emerald Star staff described a northern cruise and a southern cruise to us. We selected the northern cruise but in retrospect would have selected the southern cruise as there would have been more towns and less wilderness. This was our decision and not a criticism of the Emerald Star staff.

The wines of Burgundy are by far the best worldwide – there’s nothing to compare to them with the sole exception of some Rhone vineyards. Visiting this gem of Europe by boat delivers encounters and experience with people appreciating an entire cosmos of history, products of farming as Bresse poultry, Charolais beef, Morvan pork and cathedrals from Roman to Gothic period amid pictoresque cities with half-timbered houses. The canals allow to be there in the hot spots of interest offering utmost comfort at the same time and having immediate contact with people and culture – really the perfect holidays!

Burgundy Franche-Comté is the perfect boating region for…
Wine tasting
Did you know that more than 200 million bottles of Burgundy wine are sold every year? We highly recommend you savour some on your wine-tasting cruise!
Tour the Côte de Beaune vineyards and stop by the Maison des Vins in Chalon-sur-Saône for regional wines – it’s the perfect wine tasting holiday!
Nature lovers
Burgundy’s rivers and canals are a rich habitat for wildlife. Along the Saône and Doubs you’ll find 42 species of mammals, 30 species of fish and 160 species of birds! Watch for bee-eaters, little ringed plovers, kingfishers, golden orioles, and even the common cuckoo!
Gastronomy
Dining in fine restaurants should be part of your Burgundy Boating Holidays! Try a flan filled with Burgundy snails at Maison Lameloise in Chagny, a 3-star Michelin favorite. How about Idéal mâconnais, a cake made with meringue and butter cream filling? Or pain d’epices (ginger cake)?
Fishing
A fishing holiday in Burgundy means angling for carp, pike, zander, perch and bream. But the real lure for the passionate angler lurks in the depths of the Saône — Silurus glanis (giant catfish). Try the waters near Beaune.
