In November 2018, Emerald Star announced the acquisition of West Highland Sailing. First founded by Ray and Mary Norris
in 1982, the fleet of 10 boats are now part of the Emerald Star fleet on the Caledonian Canal.
How it all began
West Highland Sailing was first founded by Ray and Mary Norris in 1982 and contonued to grow steadily and consistently to a fleet of 13 yachts. For over 17 years, West Highland Sailing operated Le Boat’s Scottish fanchise base in Laggan, providing holidays on the Caledonian Canal.
In November 2018, Emerald Star acquired West Highland Sailing and 10 boats from its fleet with the Caledonian Canal remaining part of Le Boat’s global portfolio of 9 countries across Europe and Canada.

Now the biggest self-drive boating operator in Europe and North America, Emerald Star continues to operate on the Caledonian Canal, providing a serene escape from modern day life along Scotland’s most notable waterway. The Emerald Star base in Laggan is ideally located in the middle of the canal amidst spectacular mountain scenery.
